Writer And Alumna Wins Bill Cowan Alumnus Of The Year Award

Fittingly, on a glorious autumn evening on her favourite reading spot at Trinity College, the Bulpadock, acclaimed poet, essayist and novelist, Dr Lisa Gorton (TC 1990), was presented the Bill Cowan Alumnus of the Year Award 2016, an award that recognises outstanding achievements by a Trinity alumnus or alumna during the previous year.

Paying It Forward

When ‘Kiera’ Shi Yanhong (TCFS 2014) met mentor Imogen Smith-Waters (TC 2011) at the University of Melbourne’s Student Union (UMSU) Women’s Mentoring Network they had no idea of their Trinity connection. Little did Kiera know, she would soon be working alongside fellow Foundation Studies alumna Eileen Goh (TCFS 1996) at VincentCare Victoria.

Trinity's Demons

On Saturday 11 February, Trinity’s very own Jessica Anderson put on a stunning performance for the Melbourne Demons, leading her team to victory against Collingwood in the second round of the AFL Women’s (AFLW) competition. She joins a prodigious list of Trinity College alumni and family, spanning 117 years, who have played for the Demons in both the VFL and AFL.

Then And Now- Foundation Studies and Dr Ian Teo

The year 2004 was by almost all accounts a simpler time. Facebook had just been founded, Google released Gmail in April, and Mean Girls dominated the box office as well as inspired a whole generation of teenagers. Hipsters the world over were yet to discover their common woodcutter heritage, (the short lived) Pokemon Go! was more than a decade away, and saying "tutting" or "dabbing" to someone might lead them to think you were a painter.

Farewell for Now - 29 Royal Parade Tribute

In July 2004, Trinity College acquired a new building, an old doctor’s surgery at 29 Royal Parade directly across the road from the main campus and opportunely situated right next to Naughtons Parkville Hotel. The building quickly became home to English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and was the beginning of a special journey between staff and students lasting more than a decade.

Tribute to Colin Peter Holden

Colin Peter Holden (TC 1972) was born in 1951 and died much too soon in 2016. His father was an engineer on the Trans-Australian railway. Both his parents died when he was young. None of this explains why Colin was such an exceptional person.
