On 19 February, a full Festal Choral Evensong with the Choir of Trinity College celebrating the commencement of the Theological School academic year was held in the Chapel.

During Evensong, Archbishop Philip Freier, President of the Trinity College Council, commissioned the members of the Trinity College Theological School faculty in their new roles. The Dean of the Theological School, the Revd Canon Professor Dorothy Lee, officiated, and the Choir sang music by Adrian Batten, Charles Stanford and Ēriks Ešenvalds.

The Rt Revd John Parkes, Chair of the Theological School Committee and member of the Board of Trinity College, preached on Mathew 13, using as his refrain the children’s hymn “Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so”.

At the reception following the service, the Provost, Mr Campbell Bairstow, formally launched the Trinity College Theological School as a College of the University of Divinity. The Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Divinity were our special guests for this important celebration.

The Vice-Chancellor spoke of his satisfaction in seeing Trinity College become full College of the University, and urged Trinity to continue its leadership as a place that fosters and values excellence in Anglican liturgical practice, music and ministry, as well as being a centre for the highest quality theological research.

Teaching in the Theological School began on 23 February, with a cohort of over 150 students, about two-thirds of whom are studying online programs.
