Carl Allen, Artistic Director of Jazz Studies at the Juilliard School in New York, and fellow Juilliard Jazz teachers, will lead a group of passionate and dedicated 14–17 year old jazz students from around the world through master classes, listening classes, and orchestral and ensemble performances.

Director of Winter Schools at Trinity College, Ms Sue Karzis, said the Juilliard School represented the pinnacle of quality training in music and it was a privilege to offer students the opportunity to be a part of the only Juilliard School offered in Australia.

‘The program was of such benefit last year, that there are eight students returning to participate in the School again,’ Ms Karzis said.

‘It helps with their musical confidence, harnesses their potential, teaches them new skills, and gives them a stronger appreciation of jazz music – plus they’re learning from incredibly passionate and knowledgeable teachers.’

‘The program was inspirational and eye-opening for me,’ one student said of last year’s experience.

‘The week at Trinity was worth months and months of practice; I couldn’t have got the deeper inspiration and understanding anywhere else. ‘

The week’s program ends with two orchestral performances presented by the Juilliard Sextet and the students.
