Safety

At Trinity College and the University of Melbourne, we're passionate about ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for you to complete your studies in. While Melbourne is a typically safe city for international students, we take special measures to ensure our students feel comfortable.

Safety in Melbourne

Melbourne is ranked as one of the top 10 safest cities in the world, according to the Economist Safe Cities Index 2021. The city is ranked highly for digital security, health security, infrastructure and personal security and there are very few natural disasters experienced in Melbourne.

SafeAround also confirms that Melbourne is at low risk for pickpockets, mugging, scams and danger to women travellers.

That's not to say there is no risk in Melbourne at all, but by taking reasonable safety measures, you are likely to have a great and safe experience in our wonderful city.

Study Melbourne offers some useful tips for staying safe in Melbourne.

Assistance

All Trinity College Foundation Studies students can call an emergency number at any time to receive assistance. This is monitored 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. In any life-threatening situation, always call Victorian emergency services first via 000.

All Trinity students also have access to the University of Melbourne Security services as outlined on their website.

Campus access & staffing

The gates and external doors of our Parkville campus are open only on special occasions. Students and staff all have access cards. At the Trinity campus, students can seek assistance at the Student Hub in the Gateway Building, which is staffed on weekdays from 9am to 8pm.

We have a dedicated Student Wellbeing team that assists with student matters related to health, finances and general wellbeing, as well as a 24 hour emergency hotline. Learn more about student wellbeing and support.
