Trinity residents receive University blues

Six past and present Trinitarians were honoured at the University of Melbourne’s 2012 Sports Awards and Blues Dinner on Friday 20 May, receiving University Blues for their service.

Candice Liddy (4th year Physiotherapy), Sam Hookway (TC 2010), Tom Larkins (TC 2005 ), Jason Hughes (TC 2009) were all awarded a full University Blue, while Claire Sutterby (3rd year Science) and Daniel McKenzie (2nd year Biomedicine) were also awarded for their service with a Half Blue.

Candice was asked to give a speech on behalf of all the new Blues, and respond to a toast from fellow Trinitarian and old blue, alumnae Margot Foster (TC 1976).

‘Sport has always been an essential part of my life,' Candice said.

'I started playing hockey when I was six, and after trying every sport under the sun, I decided on a sport where it was cool to go to training and show off your bruises and stitches!

‘It is so inspiring to be amongst people like Margot Foster, who is not only an amazing sports person, but also a lawyer who has excelled academically.

‘Seeing the many multi-talented people in the room, thanks must be given to the University of Melbourne, which allows us to achieve academically, but encourages us to maintain a balance in our lives by assisting us to perform at such a high level in our chosen sport.’

These sportsmen and women have not only dedicated their time to the University of Melbourne’s sporting teams, but during their time at College have played proudly and formed a critical component of Trinity’s sporting teams.
