Outreach at Trinity

This semester students have been involved in a number of community service initiatives, which culminated with the Outreach Gala Dinner.

‘The dinner is a celebration of community service at Trinity,' TCAC Community Representative, Erin Barnes (3rd year Arts), said.

'It is designed to raise the profile of community service initiatives and celebrate the time and effort of students involved in the programs that often go unoticed.

‘The dinner was a fantastic success – we raised a total of $6,000 – and in addition, Alliance Catering donated the food served for main course and the Outreach and Cooking Societies prepared the entrée and dessert.’

The highlight of the evening was the speech delivered by CEO of World Vision Australia, Revd Tim Costello AO. As one of Australia’s leading voices on social justice issues, Revd Costello provided a unique and engaging perspective on the definition and importance of a community.

‘He appealed to students to "water them geraniums"; he asserted that it was imperative for students not to forget what they’re about and retain their youthful optimism,’ Erin said.

All proceeds from the night were donated to Teachabout and Comprehensive Rural Heath.
