Henagan wins!

Henagan, the Chestnut racehorse who was auctioned off at Frank Henagan's 80th birthday party in 2013, raced home to win by a whisker yesterday afternoon in Race 2, the 1,100m Geelong Synthetic at the Geelong Australia Maiden Plate.

Chestnut haired, like his beloved namesake, and with a running style reputedly also reminiscent of Frank’s, Henagan is proudly owned by a consortium of Trinity alumni who have all contributed to the Frank Henagan Scholarship at the College.

Luke Oliver trains the four-year old NZ gelding, describing him as ‘a very impressive horse to look at with a very strong shoulder and big hindquarters’.

Yesterday's race, superbly ridden by jockey Damian Lane, was Henagan’s second only start, following a photo finish second place on the Geelong Synthetic on 2 June.

The lucky owners are the Fully Franked Syndicate, which include Andrew Jowett, Darrell Ludowyke, David Hallowes, Peter Frith, Ian Ward Ambler, Simon Phillipson, Robyn Langham, Pete Larsen, Julian Smith, Paul Jeffrey, Bill Kelso and Scott Charles.
