Friendly rivalry

It was an afternoon of friendly rivalry, with sports fans from across Trinity coming together to witness the Foundation Studies (FS) versus Residential College soccer match on the Bulpadock.

The game was an initiative by resident student, Sissi Wang (3rd year Commerce), to unite students from both arms of the College and encourage those from FS to feel more at home on the main campus.

‘Residential students share the campus with FS students, but the interactions between the two groups is often quite minimal; we hoped the soccer match would start to build up goodwill,' Sissi said.

Sissi worked with the team from Foundation Services Student Services to recruit players and spectators. Around 40 Foundation Studies students took part in the game, which was broken down into four intervals so that each of them could play.

‘On our side, we were less organised,’ Sissi said of her fellow resident students, ‘but enough people turned up to play and preside the game, which was wonderful.’

The day of fierce competition ended with students from both sides sharing pizza and a barbeque. In Sissi’s eyes, the event was a huge success.

‘People exceedingly enjoyed it. I would love to see this match continue next year.'
