In August, the Trinity College Chapel will explore the relationship between Christian spirituality and the arts.
The series, delivered at the weekly College Evensong service, will include speakers from a diverse array of artistic, religious and cultural backgrounds.
According to Bishop Ian George (George Mitchell Fellow & Chaplain), ‘For centuries the Christian Church has been exploring our understanding of creativity in all aspects of life’.
‘Central to these concerns is the whole question of the origin and nature of creativity – so much talked about in our current culture at many levels.’
Five artists and critics will explore the issues of how Christian spirituality informs the arts (and vice versa) from their particular discipline and perspective.
Says Bishop George, ‘The Judaeo-Christian tradition sees creativity as a gift of God. Many would see artists as people with outstanding gifts inspired and encouraged by our creator through the Holy Spirit.’
Entitled ‘The Arts – for God’s sake?’, each reflection will take place on Sundays throughout August, at 6pm in the Trinity College Chapel, Royal Parade, Parkville during our regular Choral Evensong services. All welcome.
